Not going to school, sleeping in class without any fear of being scolded and clearing exams without having to study all night. The last couple of years was like a dream for millions of students. The students enjoyed the least educational pressure like no other generation has ever experienced or no other generation might ever experience. In the times were school students don’t even have to appear for exams and were promoted to the next grade just like that, there were graduation and post-graduation students who gaveopen-book exams. Therefore I believe they are also the generation who have learned least from their education. And these students are now having a tough time post-COVID situation. Let’s see how.
Recently the Pune Municipal Commissioner ordered the school the run for the full day on Saturdays and also insisted to keep the schools open, if required, on Sundays to cover the education loss because of online classes and the Pandemic. The state government has already issued the order couple of week back that the school have to remain open even at weekends if they are lagging in the completion of their syllabus. Imagine the situation of a student who has never seen the school gate in the last 2 years has to go to school every day without having single daybreak? The order was made looking at the decrease in the COVID positivity rate and removing all the restrictions that were made during the lockdown. Not only school students but a similar kind of pressure is also felt by graduates as well. While school students are forced to study in their respective schools, the graduates have to force themselves to study harder. Whether they want to crack government job exams, competitive exams or want to go for foreign studies, they have to motivate themselves, have to be disciplined and prepare harder for their goal. Students can get apply for his online transcripts for Mumbai University transcripts or DU transcripts. He can get that easily. But what about the IELTS/TOEFL score? Nobody can help them score the required marks except themselves. All coaching centres for GATE, IES, UPSC, TOEFL, IELTS or whatever exam you name it, were closed for the last 2 years and students had to prepare for these themselves. Online classes for school and colleges are different and online classes for exam preparation is different.
Online classes for schools and colleges were merely for attendance purposes. With the student’s camera and mic off, the teacher had no clue what the student is doing. We had seen a lot of funny viral videos getting out of online classes. You must have seen a couple of those too. Online classes for schools and colleges were formalities. But online classes for exam preparation had a different meaning. It was the student’s choice for which they had paid extra. The students cannot afford to ignore what they were taught in such online exam preparation classes. And the inefficiency of such online classes in making a student understand the concepts forced these students to spend extra time learning the same thing on their own. Can you relate, to reading the same thing again and again failing every time to understand what it is all about? I remember when I used to do self-study, there were a few concepts in physics that I just couldn’t understand even after reading that multiple times. And I had to wait for someone to explain the same. Students who are serious about their studies might be going through this situation every single day. And it definitely doesn’t help ease their exam pressure.
In this time where everything is available online, it is very easy for students to apply for online transcripts. They can apply for their Mumbai University transcript online from the comfort of their home. But they need to prepare hard to crack exams like GRE or GMAT if they want admission to the best foreign universities. Similarly, the school students, have no idea what they learnt in the past two years and now all of a sudden they have to study concepts from two grades higher. It’s just insane. Students have enjoyed a lot. Now it’s time to maintain equilibrium by doing all the hard work. Let’s just encourage such students and wish them all the best for their future.
